St. Andrew's Church

St. Andrew's Church is world-renowned architectural and monumental painting landmark of the 18th century, located atop the hill that shares its name, overlooking Andriyivsky Uzviz. Built between 1747 and 1762 in the Baroque style, St. Andrew's Church was dedicated to St. Andrew the First-Called Apostle. It is one of only two works in Kyiv by the celebrated architect Rastrelli. Notable features of the church include its location on a two-story stylobate, intricate decoration, compact design, and the absence of choirs or bells. It is the world’s only fully preserved interior of a sacred building designed by Rastrelli.

Famous scenes from the movie Chasing Two Hares were filmed on the steps of this church, and a monument to the film’s characters, Pronia Prokopivna and Svyrid Holokhvastov, stands nearby.

An observation deck surrounds the temple, offering one of the finest panoramic views of Kyiv’s city center.

The church features unique paintings, including "Prince Volodymyr's Choice of Faith" by Latvian artist Johann Lebrecht Eggink and "Sermon of the Apostle Andrew" (1847) by Ukrainian artist Platon Boryspolets.
